Introduction: The Ready-Made-Garments {RMG} Sustainability Council (RSC) is an unprecedented private national tripartite initiative to carry forward the significant accomplishments made in workplace safety in Bangladesh. The RSC was set up by three incorporating members representing each of the three constituents from Industry, Global Fashion Brands and Global and Local Trade Unions. The organisation is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 18 representatives – 6 from each RSC member organisations.
The RSC conducts structural, electrical, fire safety and boiler safety inspections, supports and monitors remediation, conducts safety training and operates an independent safety & health complaints mechanism available to the workers in RMG factories. Committed to transparency and accountability, it publishes key aspects of the programmes through its website, including initial inspection reports and remediation progress through up-to-date Corrective Action Plans (CAPs).
The RSC operates within the regulatory framework of Bangladesh. It also co-operates with the relevant regulatory agencies of the Government of Bangladesh to respect mutual interest.
The RSC`s vision is to deliver world-class sustainable workplace safety programmes and to make the RMG Industry a safe and better place to work.
The RSC seeks a Managing Director (MD) to continue the work of ensuring worker safety in the Bangladesh Ready Made Garment. Reporting to the Board of the RSC, the position will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES will include but will not necessarily be limited to :
Leading the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) Office
The Managing Director (MD) is the head of the RSC office. S/he is responsible for the overall management of the organisation, and is charged with implementing the strategy approved by the RSC Board of Directors, to which the MD reports.
Managing Budget and Resources
The MD has the responsibility of developing and managing resources available to the RSC. This will include making sure that there are robust administrative processes, adequate controls, and financial systems so that the RSC is an effective custodian of the funds and resources placed at its disposal, with the highest standards of accountability and transparency. The MD will also be responsible for establishing funding relationships to deliver the RSC's objectives.
Stakeholder Relations
The MD will take the lead in building and maintaining relationships with local stakeholders, local and international governments, and other international institutions. Especially important will be the managing of relationships with local industry partners, local and global labour, and signatory brands.
Directing Communications
The MD will promote the vision of the RSC to internal and external audiences, as well as reporting on progress and results. S/he will represent the organisation at the highest levels, both local and international, having a crucial role in advocating the RSC's role in fostering the safe and sustainable Ready Made Garment Industry.
Ensuring Workplace Safety
The MD will work closely with the Chief Safety Office (CSO) to achieve the RSC's objective of ensuring safe workplaces in Bangladesh, operating within the local regulatory framework in close cooperation with the Department for Inspections of Factories and Establishments (DIFE), and following the National Tripartite Plan of Action (NTPA).

Fluency in English, spoken and written, is essential. Knowledge of Bangla is an advantage.
